Computer Science Career Academy
Another Academy possibility floated around was a Computer Science Career Academy. This could take on a number of focuses. What are your thoughts around this idea?
Does this interest students in our current population of students? Do they have access to computers and internet at home? Is the district willing to provide the needed infrastructure (more labs, modern laptops, software, etc.) Would there be a certification or concurrent credit upon graduation so that students can directly enter the job field? Is there a demand for this work in Little Rock? -- McAlpine
Ms Rhodes I feel this will be very popular with our students. Most students are into technology and to have a Computer Science Career Academy, I am all for it! I would like to play an ACTIVE role in this process.
Unfortunately, I do not think that we have the population to sustain an interest in Comp Sci as a large part of this. However, I personally want to see this area grow. It will take students being exposed to introductory courses in this field to garner that interest. The question about infrastructure is very valid.
Do a survey of 9th, 10th, and 11th graders to determine interest in a Computer Science Academy, listing specific courses and course descriptions. If there is a need, then let's do it.
